Western Bedroom Decor

It is relatively easy to have a traditional western feel in your very own bedroom. There are so many decors available that will help contribute to the overall elegant effect. You may be surprised to know that some of the things you need for your bedroom are actually just sitting in your attic or the garage sale next door. Here are some useful ideas.

The Tools

Cowhides may be the most common material associated with the Wild West. There are a lot of cowhides and leathers that you can buy at your local textile and décor shop. You may even choose fabrics that are not purely leather but have cow patch designs. Dark brown, beige and mahogany are great colors to work with too.

The best places to put cowhides and leathers would be on bedroom chair covers, the headboard and tabletop sheets. You may opt to spend more buying cowhide rugs and a custom-made bed or bedroom coffee set with leather accents. These look very elegant and immediately provide you with a classic western aura.

Longhorns usually come hand-in-hand with cowhides. Most commonly, longhorns are from bulls, cows and mountain goats. You may also choose to use deer antlers, buffalo horns or ram horns. Simply mount the horn on the wall preferably the space over the bedroom door. You may polish the décor but most western aficionados prefer the rustic look.

Other decorations that would look great are cowboy pistols, spurs, cowboy hats, antique wooden mirror, handkerchiefs and horseshoes. You may set handkerchiefs and cowboy hats on the wall but be careful not to put too much since it may make your bedroom look smaller. You can also place an antique wooden shelf where you can place all western accessories. Another great idea would be to print quality black-and-white photos of cowboys, bars or horses and place them in rustic metal or wooden frames.

Lighting and Furniture

There are a variety of lighting fixtures that will effectively give a ranch ambiance. You may choose to put a western chandelier over the bed. Hanging bar lights and classic style wall sconces are also good. Yellow light is always preferred since it looks good together with hardwood floor and walls. Some lamps, chandeliers and ceiling lights already have a western design complete with metal work depicting ranch scenes.

Wood made from oak or mahogany is usually the best materials to work with when it comes to furniture. Rustic metals are also effective. You may have your bed adorned with leather or cowhide with nailhead trimmings. Do not worry so much about polishing or mild wear-and-tear traces on furniture since the main idea is to provide a rugged yet beautiful feel.

Ideal ranch furniture would be a coffee table set, one or two lounge chairs and western shelves. Western dressers that come with yellow light bulbs lining the mirror also make a great décor. You may want to customize your bedroom door too by having it painted with oak wood pattern and changing the knob with bronze or silver metal. If you have a walk-in closet or bathroom in the bedroom, you can change the door as well with double swing-opens just like the ones in western saloons. For the ultimate western feel, place a mini western bar complete with old wines and glasses.
